Protecting the California Tiger Salamander indirectly adds more jobs to the economy. More jobs equals lower unemployment rates, and lower unemployment means increased economic activity, less government borrowing, and easier job access. In the United States, “visitors to national parks, refuges, and other public lands spend $28 billion a year on fishing, hiking, hunting, and wildlife watching, leading to more than 400,000 private and public sector jobs.” (Economic Benefits of ESA, 2006) Overall, designating more protected land for the California Tiger Salamander proliferates economic activity in communities and improves the livelihood of its citizens.
